The Most Visited Cities in the UK

As we're sure you've all seen, we recently wrote a post on the most visited cities in the world- all of which are definitely on our bucket list of places to visit! So, this time, we thought we'd write about our own wonderful country.

So what are the most visited cities in the UK? Our little island may not be as big as some, but we certainly have our fair share of historic, cultural, modern, and beautiful places to visit.

We have been doing our research here at Great Little Breaks and have found our list of the most visited cities in the UK. It's no wonder that these cities are on the list, and we think you'll see why!

London:

There is so much to see and do in London; it is known as one of the most exciting cities in the world. It is a hub of activity, and home to major sights such as the Tower of London, the London Eye, and Buckingham Palace. With over 10 million visitors per year, and hundreds of notable attractions, it's no wonder London is a thriving city. No matter what your interests are, you're guaranteed to find something here.

Oxford:

Well known throughout the world as a centre of culture and learning, Oxford blends historic charm with all the buzz of a modern city. Most people associate the town with its University, but Oxford has a lot more to offer. Other attractions include the Botanic Gardens, Blenheim Palace, Bicester Shopping Village, and the Pitt Rivers Museum. With plenty of activities, and even more to see in the city, Oxford is definitely on our list.

Birmingham:

Known as the second largest city in the UK, Birmingham attracts millions of visitors per year. The city is a centre of culture, music, shopping, and much more. Home to attractions such as Cadbury World, the National Sea Life centre, and Twycross Zoo, and sports team such as Aston Villa and Birmingham City FC, it's no wonder this city has such continual growth.

Manchester:

Manchester is a centre of activity, with events being held in the city throughout the year- you certainly won't be bored here. Whether it's an international festival, a highly published sports event, or a sold-out gig, Manchester has something for everyone. And it's not only the modern attractions which draw people to this exciting city, sites such as Manchester Cathedral, Manchester Art Gallery, and the Museum of Science and Industry are also highlights.

Edinburgh:

With Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish National Gallery, and Edinburgh Zoo all in one city, it's no wonder that Edinburgh is one of the most visited cities in the UK. Well known for its vast history and culture, Edinburgh attracts millions of visitors per year. Whether you're here to explore the wonders of the city's past, or enjoying the many modern aspects of Scotland's capital, you certainly won't be disappointed.
