Here at Great Little Breaks, we love what the UK has to offer, that's why we have breaks all over the country! We are very lucky in Britain to have so much to explore, from the hustle and bustle of city-scapes, to the rolling hills of rural areas, so we want to share with you some of our favourite UK destinations.
Well known as one of Edinburgh's most famous attractions, this historic fortress stands overlooking the city below. The Castle has a vast and rich history from as early as the Bronze ages, and has hosted royalty as well as various battles across the years. Discover the different parts of the castle including the Great Hall, the Scottish National War Memorial, and listen to the famous 'One O'Clock Gun'. The Castle has a range of facilities and for those who are looking for a little refreshment, visitors are welcome to sit back and relax in the charming Tea Room and Redcoat Cafe.
Edinburgh Castle is open daily from 9:30am-6pm (April-September). Last entry is one hour before closing. For more information, please call 0131 668 8800.
Offering excellent panoramic views of the city of Edinburgh, Arthur's Seat is another of the city's famous attractions. The name of this popular walking area is believed to be derived from the legends of King Arthur, and is the largest of the three parts of the Arthur's Seat Volcano site. This mysterious location is also believed to be one of the possible locations for Camelot, the legendary Castle and Court of King Arthur.
Edinburgh International Film Festival:
Established in 1947, the Edinburgh Film Festival is an annual festival renowned around the world for promoting the very best in international cinema. Several famous titles have been showcased here over the years, from 'The Hurt Locker' to the famous 'Billy Elliot', and much more. Supported by 'Creative Scotland' and 'City of Edinburgh Council', this festival highlights and celebrates Scotland's cultural and creative strengths on a world stage.
