Our 15/15 Challenge
Posted on April 24, 2014 by Admin
Originally opened in 1999, hotelshopUK has now sprung into its 15th year, and we wanted to give something back. As a charitable company, we often hold charity events, and have enjoyed the challenge of raising money in different ways over the years. This year all staff have accepted the challenge to raise £15,000!
All staff at hotelshopUK were invited to nominate a favourite charity they had a special connection with and the selection was made after a vote. The charities chosen are 'The Ruimveldt Children's Aid Centre' in Guyana, and 'The Little Princess Trust'.
The Ruimveldt Children's Aid Centre
Located in Guyana, the centre is a national/international charity chosen by our Corporate Accounts Manager. This important charity has been set up to help disadvantaged children in the local area. They rely on volunteers and local businesses in Guyana for donations. The centre cares for around 60 children from the ages of 4-16 years old, and offers children various activities such as dance lessons, choir practice, after school lessons, career development and counselling for those children needing extra support.
Here at hotelshopUK and Great Little Breaks, our aim is to help the centre build a new kitchen, build a basketball court, and buy a trampoline for the children.
The Little Princess Trust
A local charity set up to help boys and girls who have lost their own hair through treatment for cancer. The Hereford based charity aims to supply young children with real hair wigs that can be styled to resemble their own hair. As a result of treatment for cancer, most children will suffer hair loss as a side effect, and for some this can be a very difficult experience. The Little Princess Trust works with specialist suppliers and experienced hairdressers who offer wigs tailored to the individual children's needs. The charity relies on donations to keep them going.
Already some of our staff here at hotelshopUK and Great Little Breaks have pledged to grow their hair (hair for wigs needs to be at least 7 inches long) to be cut and donated to the charity.
What we've done so far
Various fundraising activities are already taking place, and the money raised will be halfed equally and donated to our chosen charities.
