Only 8 days until Spring- and we're definitely counting down! The warmer weather and spring vibes were welcomed with the return of ice-cream vans and outdoor activities this weekend - and lucky for us, this weather is set to continue.
To continue our week of looking forward to spring, we are offering you some fantastic destinations for some Great Little Spring Breaks, plus a little extra info! Are you ever on a short break and wondering what to do in the local area?
Risley Hall Hotel and Spa, Derby, Derbyshire:
Risley Hall is an 11th Century Saxon country house set in 10 acres of private landscaped grounds, and a popular country retreat, famous for its fine cuisine, luxurious rooms and outstanding service.
The Manor House has 16 individually named bedrooms all with their own unique decor. Adjoining the Manor House is the Willoughby Court wing where there are a further 19 spacious suites.
On the ground floor of the Manor House is the cocktail bar, Orangery lounge, Drawing room and the Abbey's Restaurant which has been awarded an AA Rosette.
This charming hotel also boasts a Health Spa, where the facilities include an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and health and beauty spa with beauty treatment rooms. The teams of professional therapists provide a variety of indulgent treatments all designed to soothe tired bodies or rejuvenate the mind.
Derby is a city in the East Midlands region of England and lies on the banks of the River Derwent. The city is full of character, set within the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and in striking distance of the Peak District. With plenty of famous attractions only short distances away, this charming city is perfect for couples, groups, singles, and families alike.
Less than an hour away (and well worth the drive) is the theme park, Alton Towers. The world famous resort is a theme park, water park, and hotel complex, and provides entertainment for all ages. The site opened in 1860 running flower shows and garden tours until a theme park was built on the site in 1980.
Since then the water park has opened as well as two hotels. Its major attractions include Oblivion, Nemesis, Air, and more recently, TH13TEEN and The Smiler. The park holds several events throughout the year, such as fireworks nights, 'scare fests', and Christmas events, and re-opens this year on March 22nd- what a way to kick off the season.
Donington Park Circuit is definitely a crowd pleaser, as one of the UKs most well known race circuits. This motorsport circuit, less than 20 minutes from Risley Hall near Castle Donington, was created during the pre-war period and opened in 1931. The circuit has hosted Formula 1 races, and became the favoured home of the British round of the MotoGP motorcycling championship. The park now hosts other events, such as music events, as well as a Grand Prix exhibition.
Another one for the whole family is Sherwood Forest Country Park. Less than an hour?s drive from Risley Hall, this country park is a Royal Forest in Nottinghamshire, and is famous through its historical association with the legend of Robin Hood. Today Sherwood Forest encompasses 423.2 hectares (over 1000 acres) of woodland, heath, farms & settlements. It is the ecologically important home of some of Europe?s greatest trees, with lowland heathland that is as rare as rainforest. There are several routes throughout the forest to explore, either on foot, on horseback or cycling, and offers a range of active fun for all ages.
Spring is on its way! All of these attractions will be open for spring and all the details are available on their websites.
Here at Great Little Breaks we cannot wait to promote our spring breaks, watch this space for our upcoming spring offers!
