With summer in full swing, we wanted to share with you our top tips for summer travel! Over the next few days we will be sharing useful tips and advice on packing, coping with long flights and essentials for your holiday in the sun.

Holiday essentials:

Holidays are exciting and for a lot of people, they're a big escape and a major event for the year but no matter what when getting ready to go on holiday, there is always something that most people forget. Whether it's a charger, a towel or the all important suntan lotion, something always gets overlooked. So here at Great Little Breaks we have put together a list of summer holiday essentials.

Camera- this might be very obvious but it's very easy to forget! There are so many memories to be made on holiday and you should always be able to capture them, so put your camera on the list.

Medical kit- you never know when you might need a little bit of looking after, and sometimes things can be unexpected when you're exploring somewhere new. It's a good idea to keep a small medical kit on you with things such as paracetamol, plasters, and antibacterial wipes in it.

Health insurance card- again, you never know what could happen on holiday. Not to be pessimistic, but it's always good to be prepared. Make sure you have valid health insurance for when you travel as it will save you a lot of money.

Local map or area guide- as much fun as it is to explore new places on holiday, getting lost can be very frustrating. Try to keep a travel guide on you or some kind of map of the area you are in so you always know where you are.

Headphones- there are just times where you need to drown out the world and be in your own space with your own sounds. Whether it's on the plane, in the noisy airport, or by the pool, take some headphones with you to take some time to relax.

After sun- most people will take sun protection with them, but what happens if you do get sun-burnt? Make sure you've got a good after sun lotion with you, or at least a good moisturiser to soothe your skin after a day soaking up the rays.

Travel adapter- definitely an essential! You are certain to have something to plug in/charge whilst you're on holiday, so make sure you dig out your adapter and throw it in the case.

Warmer clothing/footwear- if you're not one to plan your holiday in great detail, you never know where you will end up or exactly what you will be doing. So remember to pack some warmer clothing and footwear just in case of cooler evenings, or activities which require a few more layers.
