It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and here at Greatlittlebreaks we are already in the spirit. Nothing says Christmas spirit quite like a stroll round a traditional Christmas Market with a glass of spiced mulled wine. And luckily for you we have selected the cosiest market breaks to fulfil all your festive needs! Let us take the stress out of your pre-Christmas getaway by booking yourself on one of our market breaks packed full of added extras.

Winchester Christmas Market

Inspired by traditional German markets, the Winchester Christmas Cathedral Market attracts almost half a million visitors each year and it is not difficult to see why. Pretty wooden chalets, overflowing steins and traditional bratwursts mean you can treat yourself to all the German Christmas delights without having to dig out your passport. Once you’ve feasted on all the festive foodie treats, treat yourself to a skate around the real open-air ice rink situated underneath the picturesque structures of the ancient Cathedral.

The Winchester market offers a personal touch to traditional British arts and crafts by inviting the most creative British craftspeople including jewellers, painters, glass makers and textile artists to hand craft your perfect gift.

York Christmas Market

There is no other time of the year that York looks more beautiful than at Christmas – the streets are alive with twinkling lights, decorated trees and of course their famous St Nicholas Christmas Fair. This year the market is running from the 16th November to 22nd December and the opening of the market is combined with the grand switching of the city lights. In addition, back for another year is the much loved Yorkshire Yuletide Village. After meandering around the multitude of food and arts and crafts stalls, get cosy around the roaring fires under the canvas of Thor’s Tipi and sip on a hot beverage of your choice.

As an added gift this year, the windows of local shops in York will be adorned with glorious festive displays for their living advent calendar. On each day of advent, a new window will be revealed giving people the chance to enter daily competitions and win Christmas themed prizes. Make sure to not miss out of the fun in the city.
